School, Ridgeway, South Carolina

We always drove past this abandoned school on our way to summer camp in Ridgeway, South Carolina. For years there were just the two buildings but on my most recent visit, back in the summer of 2009, the doorway and auditorium were all that were left. Architecture of Solvgade school

Solvgades School is being extended to enable it to become a two-track school. A new school building of approximately 2,400 m² is being constructed in the existing school courtyard, while the listed school building from 1847 is being extended. The new, six-storey school building inclines in order to accommodate the surrounding housing blocks: both the tall houses in Klerkegade and the lower ones in Solvgade. [Source]

Abandoned school Millbrook

This school was originally constructed in 1890 as Halcyon Hall - a luxury hotel constructed of wood and stone dreamed up by publisher H.J. Davison Jr. Filled with books and curios from around the world, the hotel was a retreat that featured beautiful carved wooden pillars, balconies, and small niches to steal a quick read or nap. The building had been designed in the elaborate Victorian Queen Anne style by James E. Ware, and consisted of 200 rooms in 5 stories, plus a basement and sub-basement. Despite the grandeur, Halcyon Hall failed to catch the popularity it had hoped for. It closed in 1901, and stood vacant until another a buyer was found eight years later. [Source]
